India's coal production rises 7.41% in April, dispatches up 6.07%

New Delhi: India's coal production for April 2024 reached 78.69 million tonnes (MT), marking a 7.41 per cent increase from the previous year, the ministry of coal said.

The country's coal production stood at 73.26 MT in April 2023. Coal India Limited (CIL) accounted for 61.78 MT of this production, reflecting a 7.31 per cent increase from the 57.57 MT recorded last year.

Coal production by captive/others stood at 11.43 MT in April 2024, showing a 12.99 per cent increase compared to 10.12 MT in the previous year, it added.

India's coal dispatches in April 2024 reached 85.10 MT, a 6.07 per cent increase from 80.23 MT in April 2023.

CIL dispatched 64.26 MT of coal, up 3.18 per cent from 62.28 MT in the previous year. Coal dispatch by captive/others stood at 15.16 MT, reflecting a 26.90 per cent increase compared to 11.95 MT the previous year.
